Flagship Event: Passion for Craft
Apr 30, 2026 · 6:00 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
Defining our craft and why we love it
Are people still reading these or do y'all just show up ready to collaborate, share, and learn?
This event is to help define why we choose to operate on the craft side of the fence (the margins can be slim and expectations are always high), and how we can develop practices that build not just our businesses, but the indsutry as a whole.
Like our craft-brewing compatriots in the beer industry, we hope to build more craft projects in Alberta by improving the standard across the indsutry. By building better homes and running smoother operations, we can grow our piece of the pie, while doing something we love with partners who feel the same!
Our panel:
Mariya Podeyko is the owner of :AM Cleaning, which was born from Mariya's belief that the standard for cleaning services can and should be improved. Cleaning services in our indsutry is a trade, same as drywall, plumbing, or any of the other hands that touch a project on it's way to completion. Mariya and her team are the final audit when a project wraps for completion and she is excited to share her knowledge with our community!
Melanie Higuchi is the co-founder of Functional Spaces, a company built to solve the problems of our over-crowded homes. Like many of our community members, Melanie and Heather are constantly trying to learn more about our client's needs and build solutions that will work far into the future.
Kara Kenno is the general manager of Royal Flush Kitchen & Bath Boutique, Calgary's best (and longest-serving) supplier for kitchen and bath hardware. Kara's spot on the panel is rooted in service as a craft. Simply sourcing the best products and materials only goes so far without an educated team dedicated to project success. Like so many things in our craft community, it requires going an extra-mile when there is no direct incentive to do-so.
The Host: Jeff Humphries is quietly becoming one of the coolest people in town. He runs Shortline Creative and hosts the podcast every Calgarian should listen to, The Calgary Sessions, where he sits down with local Calgary characters to chat about their roots and where they are today. He hosted one of our previous panels and knows how to flow a conversation as well as anyone in town.
As always, we have several tables worth of BBQ coming out after the presentation! And! The first round is covered.
